But Nike made it possible for 12 creators — dubbed “RevolutionAirs” — to work with its design team on a look that expresses who they are and what makes them tick. Sneakerheads can visit the pop-up shops in New York City, Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles. To help celebrate the Air Max Day in a grand way, Nike will bring back a mix of retros, remixes and innovations that will release throughout the month of March. The reason the shoe franchise is so special, said Kyle Ng, cofounder of streetwear brand Brain Dead, is because of the design boundaries it’s pushed since its inception. Japanese retailer atmos was quickly gaining acclaim in sneakerhead circles, firming up a strong foundation of collaborations with Nike. Jumping forward to 2007, the atmos x Nike Air Max 1 “Elephant” arrived on the scene, as part of a “Zoo” pack. It revolutionized the game, and that’s why every year the kyrie 1 all star Swoosh unites to celebrate the original drop with a host of new retros, remixes and innovations. A women’s version will also be available on the same day, featuring a colorless outsole unit and an upper that’s just a little bit brighter as well.

The Air Max Day bus features 30 of the most iconic Nike Air Max 1 releases in honor of the silhouette’s 30th anniversary. Coming in "Sport Blue" and "Sport Red" colorways, the Air Max 1 Premium "Tonal" Pack features a combination of mesh and Nubuck on the upper. White tongue tags add a bit of contrast to each shoe. The Los Angeles pop-up will give consumers the chance to purchase products from the NIKEiD Printing opportunity to experience the Air VaporMax, chance to purchase products from the NIKEiD Printing Press and check out the history and heritage of Nike Air. One such fan is Aussie DJ, music geek and sneakerhead YO! MAFIA, who is a proud Air Max Day ambassador as part of Nike’s Month of Max. YO! MAFIA has been combining her love of 80s/90s hip-hop and style for the past 15 years, bringing her unique flavour to the decks while touring with some of the biggest names in music, including Stevie Wonder. The Air Max 90 OG is quickly recognized, especially in its vibrant Infrared color. In the Air Max 90 Flyknit, two new innovations make this icon lighter: a Flyknit upper which also increases flexibility, and a cored-out midsole that decreases weight and increases comfort. But while Nike’s own design teams (including sneaker deity and father of Air Max himself, Tinker Hatfield) are the ones bringing life to the game-changing ideas emerging out of the Beaverton campus, there’s something to be said about the not-so-secret society that has so thoroughly embraced, enhanced, and energized Nike’s designs, especially the Air Max 1. Nike Air Max Day is creeping up on us as it’s fast approaching. To help celebrate one of Nike’s biggest days of the year, they’ve decided to open up a Nike Air Pop-Up shop in La Brea Ave.
